Our solutions for the mining sector include design, drafting, shop detailing, quantity surveying, procurement, feasibility studies and project management. Thuthukani Consulting offers specialist designs in underground ground handling infrastructure, vertical shaft designs, decline shaft designs, pumping infrastructure and material handling systems.

Underground Ground Handling Infrastructure

Thuthukani have done feasibility studies and implementation designs on several different types of ground handling infrastructures. From conveyor systems fed by crushers and tipping systems to entional vertical shaft tipping arrangements.

Vertical Shaft Designs

These designs include the winder house, headgear, bank area, stations, shaft loading arrangements and shaft bottom.

Decline Designs

Several different types of declines have been designed:

  • 9 degrees, single drum material winder and conveyors for ore transport.
  • 12 degrees, single drum material winder and conveyors for ore transport.
  • 5 degrees, double drum winder for material and ore transport.
  • Chairlift declines.
Pumping Systems
  • Clearwater systems with clarifiers and vertical or horizontal dams.
  • Dirty water systems with cascading dams to keep the pumping head to an optimal solution.
Material Handling Systems

Systems consisting of conveyors, crushers and screens have been designed by Thuthukani. The conveyors include overland conveyors, up to 2 km, gantry conveyors, underground incline conveyors, strike conveyors and small mobile sacrificial conveyors.

Project Portfolio

Thuthukani consulting was involved in the design of a Gland Service Water system for Grootegeluk mine. The system monitors 44 slurry pumps simultaneously and in real time and is full automated – complete with PLC and SCADA systems.

Thuthukani Consulting assist with the design and feasibility testing for full service shaft hoisting infrastructure for the Philsaga Mining Corporation in the Philippines. The infrastructure was manufactured in South African and then transported to the Philippines for construction.

Thuthukani Consulting provided extensive design services and feasibility studies to this six year long project and involved the design and construction of a decline shaft and infrastructure to equip the East Shaft pillar at Harmony Gold’s Bambanani Mine.
